Repeal the 17th Amendment

Our Constitution was designed deliberately in a manner to preserve the voice of the minority, hence a Republic was born and NOT a Democracy. All too many do not realize that the word “Draconian” is derived from what happens when a pure democracy exists; it ultimately becomes a civilization-ending mob ruled tyranny. The 17th amendment did not just result in the citizenry directly voting for Senators to Congress (and it was billed as being more “democratic” of course, without anyone realizing what an abomination it was to the Founding Fathers intentions), but the passing of this amendment disengaged and disincentivized The People from communicating with with their State Assemblymen, holding them accountable, and being more aware of, and educated about local, state, and ultimately Federal affairs. It removed some of the necessary obstacles to wonton & reckless change, and all but eliminated the need for civil debate & discourse between the minority & the majority populations within each state. This change diminished the power of local governments and virtually silenced the minority voices of much of the electorate and their ability to affect the Federal Government by disempowering the locally elected State representatives from affecting Federal Policy; it shifted the balance of power away from The People and away from being a Republic, and towards The Mob, and Democracy. Because of this amendment, populations of large cities with often very different problems, agendas, and values squelch the farmer, the rancher, the miner, the various small village & townspeople who are in many respects far more important to the survival of the city folk than city folk are to the town & village folk. This unwise action of what we can only hope were well-intentioned fools has led to over a century of constitutional erosion and civic polarization & decay. The 17th Amendment should be repealed.
