Myth busting on housing economics

The Australian government aims to build 1.2 million homes over five years to address the housing shortage. However, there are common misconceptions about housing supply that need to be addressed. These include the belief that housing demand is solely driven by population growth, the misconception that foreign investors are buying up existing properties, the idea that there are a significant number of vacant homes being withheld from the market, and the perception that apprenticeships are inferior to university education. To achieve the housing target, the government needs to reduce tax constraints, ease finance regulations, and reform planning regulations.
