Happy Father’s Day to all my fellow Dads out there! Last year, I woke up in the early morning to my little girl pulling on my hand and saying “Daddy, come play me!”. Inspired, I was compelled to write this piece.
Virtually anyone with the right equipment can become a Father, but not all fathers can find the strength & commitment within themselves to be a Dad.
To be a Dad is not just an awesome responsibility, it is a great privilege. With the weight of the world on His shoulders, a Dad is a child’s first hero & role model; He provides for & protects his children creating an overarching sense of safety & security for them while at the same time instilling within them the confidence needed to have courage, courage tempered by the mindful resoluteness required to be brave, act with valor, and defend themselves & their convictions; He teaches reason, discipline, & justice with a firm but fair hand laying the foundation of the moral compass that will govern the child’s True North throughout their lives; He painstakingly, and without complaint, lays the first many cobbles of the child’s path through Life with his wisdom & guidance still illuminating that path long after His own light has gone from the Universe; His memory acts as the measure by which we judge & value both ourselves & others, and He is the standard by which we love & provide for our own children.
A Dad is more than just a Father, he is the unswerving steward, guardian, and mentor of the children he is privileged to serve.
