A theme that will continue on through the vast majority of my posts is the importance of branding. While the story of Miami Beach Brokers is just beginning, so is the ongoing lesson(s) I continue to learn on the subject of branding as I continue to break some rules and test my designer’s saint-like patience. Over the past few months my designer and I had created a “grid” as she calls it, and it basically looks like a cohesive piece of art containing an array of brand messaging types including quotes, Halloween cheer, featured properties or buildings and locations, or a simple message of the day. For example, at one point you could look at the Miami Beach Brokers Instagram Page and see this:

For a while I had gotten away from this discipline and posted some rather awesome night-time photos of various intracoastal towers in Sunny Isles Beach, but despite the wonderful clarity of the images and the intensity of the imagery, it was clear that night scenes (at least the ones I had chosen) did not fit in the “grid”; they were too dark and it messed with the brand’s color palette.

I think it is important to note here that this is one very good reason to HAVE TWO ACCOUNTS, especially if you are impulsive like I am. Your “official” company namesake page should stick to the brand discipline while the fearless leader of the company should be able to have another account to post all of the wonderful things they love and adore about the product they are selling, in my case, the beauty (day or night) of Miami & the Miami Beaches. This is why I have Miami Beach Broker on Instagram as well as Miami Beach Brokers on Instagram. This way I have an account where I can be a little more fast and loose and not worry about the “Brand Police” making me delete dozens of images from my company’s feed.

The Holidays Begin

Later in the month our branding guru came up with a beautiful graphic that not only celebrates our logo, but also Thanksgiving! Every customer and many friends and family were entertained by her creativity.

That is when an unusually hectic December began. Interest in Miami Real Estate from out-of-state customers skyrocketed while a very wise company hired our branding specialist into a full-time capacity at their studios and so a couple of weeks went by without any new posts. It had not previously occurred to me that I might want to pre-set up a couple of tools on my phone and laptop to at least be able to drop in the company’s logo or the words “Miami Beach Brokers” into/onto an image. And just then an idea hit me out of left field; we can put out a lot of content over two weeks by “simply” doing the 12 Days of Christmas, the Realtor’s version! I began writing lyrics and texting the Brand Guru feverishly! “Can we get it all done?” ” You just started a job… Are you sure you will have time?” “I REALLY want to do this! LOL!”.

The Twelve Days of Christmas

A few minutes later she writes back “Yes”… I’m sure there was a *sigh* in there somewhere but with only twelve days to go until Christmas the effort for an off-the-cuff, branded, holiday social media mini-campaign began! I am leaving the explanation(s) and my/our thinking behind these images for a forthcoming VLOG I will be posting on YouTube and elsewhere.

I am very happy with the outcome overall and with perhaps more lead time we could refine the Miami Realtor’s Twelve Days of Christmas to scream MIAMI even more next year!

And so, we get to the summary of lessons that will conclude this article.

  1. Have the discipline to maintain consistency in your branding. Allow YOUR “grid” to form and let it speak to your audience.
  2. Have a second account to put your both your branded content and all of the stuff the “branding police” will not let you post to the Brand Page.
  3. Be Creative. There is always a great idea just inches away from you if you just take a minute to look around and think about it. Where are you? What Day is it? What Season is it? Heck, what astrological sign is it? You never know where your inspiration will come from! Take nothing for granted.
  4. Have fun with it. If Branding your business is not fun, you are not doing it right…or your are in the wrong business.
  5. Be able to tell a story…as I have done in this post. Consider this: I was just able to re-use old content and make it relevant yet again for the intents & purposes of this article.
  6. Be Bold. Just look at my business card! I embraced my brand and even bought a whole new wardrobe to match the brand.
